Q&A Subject: Markusnet man-overboard (MOB) matters

Question no. 0001

Q:    Why do I fall on my back when I am entering the Markusnet in the water to be taken up in standing position?

A:    The main reason is that there were no strain on the lifting lines. ( the deck rescuer is not pulling the lifting lines towards him as you approach the net structure in the water). There may also have some effect if there is too much air in the lower part of your drysuit (immersions suit). This usually does not happen when you are not dressed in drysuit.

The Markusnet is designed to catch the mind of the MOB to secure himself in the net structure and by that decrease the need for in-water rescue and enable rescuer to bring the MOB to safety.
It is also designed to enable safe and effective rescue of helpless MOB casualty so called "in-water" rescue.
and transfer of people from liferaft and small boats to larger vessel in extreme weather and sea conditions.
