The Markus Safety-ladder is a must on all boats. You may have to provide a man overboard in panic a safer mean to hold to midship, than just a line. See MAIB Safety Digest report 2/2003 case 26.

The Safety-ladder provides a single handed sailor and in-water rescuer an important security.

Hanging in too long or too short safety harness at the side may cuse hazards. Sometimes it is better to fall into the water and drift with the boat. The Safety ladder at the side is then a must.

Make sure the Safety-ladder you have on the side of yor boat can be pulled down by man facing it from the water and that it goes 1 metre into the water. This is to enable exhausted man over board casualty to step into the lowest step.
