- If the in-water rescuer has to pull out the Markusnet
himself, he should fasten the casualty in front of him, between his arms and as he pulls
the line, he should allow it to float away on his lee side.
- The best way is to pull the rescuer and the casualty
towards the vessel and as they are around 5 metre from the vessel, the rescuer should hook
his arm around the line and allow it to slide through until the deck team has pulled the
Markusnet to them or allowed it to drift to the casualty.
Recommendation to the
bridge officer on deck boats and ships under 45 m length in high sea and wind:
Hold the ship into the wind,
slightly leeways and take action if possible with the man overboard on the cool side of
the vessel, to avoid danger to the casualty and to the in-water rescuer.
Recommendation to the
deck team:
Every crew member has to know
his duty during the man overboard search and rescue operation and be able to support the
in-water rescuer in anyway without hesitation.A back up in-water rescuer should be standby
when possible. |
